The Reverend Este Gardner CantorThe Reverend Este Gardner Cantor

Este had an early introduction to spirituality, influenced by her geologist father’s great love of nature, and her mother’s love of the Episcopal Church. Este is the granddaughter great-granddaughter, and great-great grand daughter of preachers. She continued an interest in spirituality, exploring different cultures and religions, and became a maker of films with social justice and spiritual themes.

After 20 years of work as a filmmaker, she got the call to Holy Orders, and attended seminary at the Church Divinity School of the Pacific, beginning for her first two years at the Franciscan Multicultural Institute. As she attended seminary she continued to work as Director of Religious Education for All Souls Church in Berkeley. She then accepted a call to Church of Our Saviour, Mill Valley as Associate Rector, while also working as Coordinating Chaplain of An Episcopal Ministry to Convalescent Hospitals (AEMCH).

Este is very excited about the possibilities of multi-cultural ministry inside and outside of Holy Trinity/La Santisima Trinidad, as the parish reaches out into the neighborhood, and continues to enjoy bi-lingual services, and the sharing of traditions. Este is a beginning, but very enthusiastic student of Spanish, and attended an intensive language course in Guatemala this past summer.

Holy Trinity/La Santisima Trinidad has a sister parish in Berkeley, Church of the Good Shepherd, and both look forward to continue collaborating in multicultural and area ministry efforts in social justice, interfaith work and work with children and youth.

Este lives in Berkeley with her husband Matt Cantor, a building consultant and architectural philosopher, and her 17 year-old daughter Hannah Cantor. Her other daughter, 19 year-old Andy Cantor, is at school at Sarah Lawrence College."

Fr. Javier has been working at Holy Trinity/La Santísima Trinidad as Associate Vicar for the Latino Congregation since April, 2003. Fr. Javier enjoys watching his son grow, being involved in his (son’s) education, reading books of spirituality, watching movies, visiting tourist places, listening to classic music and playing with Diego. Rev. KateRev. Kate

Kate serves as the deacon to the Latino, and Anglo Congregations. Kate also serves at The School for Deacons, teaching liturgical music, and practicum, and coordinates the Field Education Program. Kate serves the Episcopal Church nationally, and internationally, having served as President of the North American Association for the Diaconate (NAAD).

Kate is very passionate about Diaconal, and Multi-Ethnic Ministry, seeking justice in the world by serving the poor, and disenfranchised. She brings a diversity of experience to the ministry, and believes that being a deacon is “who” she is. She has served in hospitals, convalescent hospitals, prisons, developmentally disabled facilities, as a marriage, and family therapist, plus doing Mission work in Central/South America. In 2006, Mother Pam, Padre Javier, Kate, and other folks went to Ecuador to experience life together, speaking lots of Spanish, and learning about Ecuador, Padre Javier’s native country, and dancing on the beach.

The most surprising things about Kate is that she was a professional musician, having worked in Opera, light opera, and various musical companies, as she says, “In her former life.” She has been a professed Third Order Franciscan for 22 years. Kate especially enjoys traveling, singing, dancing, and finding joy in the simple life. Fay ChingFay Ching
